Services and Resources
Law Enforcement
- Provides technical, analytical and
investigative assistance to law enforcement
agencies in cases involving missing and/or
exploited children and adults.
- Functions as a central repository to
coordinate, compile, analyze, exchange and
disseminate information on missing and
exploited children and adults.
- Assists with cases involving child
pornography, child enticement and other
incidents of child exploitation on the
Internet, and collaborates with 45 federally
funded Internet Crimes Against Children Task
Forces.
- Conducts searches through the Violent
Criminal Apprehension Program (VICAP).
- Networks with the U.S. Department of
State and the National Center for Missing
and Exploited Children (NCMEC) International
Child Abduction Unit to locate abducted
children.
- Actively participates as a member of
I-SEARCH (Inter-State Enforcement Agencies
to Recover Children Council), a network of
13 Midwestern states.
- Maintains access to a nationwide
computer network among state clearinghouses
and the National Center for Missing and
Exploited Children (NCMEC), used to share
information in order to expedite the
dissemination of leads and investigative
resources to help assist in the search for
missing and exploited children.
Families
- Assists victim families in searching for
missing and/or exploited children and
adults.
- Maintains photographs of Wisconsin’s
missing children and adults on the
Department of Justice's website:
www.missingpersons.doj.wi.gov.
- Creates and disseminates posters of
missing children and adults regionally,
statewide and/or nationwide.
- Maintains a toll-free hotline
(1-800-THE-HOPE) for obtaining information
regarding available resources and services.
- Provides information and referrals.
- Assists victims and their families in
securing services from other agencies.
- Helps obtain financial assistance to
reunite missing children with
parents/guardians.
Amber Alert
Education and Public Awareness
- Helps create and maintain public
awareness regarding issues involving missing
and exploited children and adults.
- Educates law enforcement and the public
in prevention and intervention.
- Presents training programs for law
enforcement officers responsible for
investigating missing and exploited cases.
- Presents training programs to schools
and community groups.
- Participates in law enforcement
community safety fairs and other community
events.
- Disseminates educational literature.
